Longwood Water Lilies

I don’t know what it is about water lilies but I just love them!  I could share literally dozens of lily pictures with you but I chose (for this post at least) just four that I think best represent the over 100 varieties they have there.

We were fortunate that when we visited the water lily garden (5 large ponds set in the courtyard of the Conservatory) it was overcast.  I say we were fortunate because some of the night lilies didn’t realize it was daytime and were still blooming – just for me I think!!

But break out the polarizing filter because there are some crazy reflections off the water – even with the overcast skies.

In addition Longwood lights the water lily garden in the evenings.  All the better to see the night blooming lilies I suppose!!  I struggled to capture the essence of how the place looked at night.  This is my favorite shot – but really not thrilled with it.  Like I always say – this will give me something to focus on next time!!!
